Congressional Visit Day

Congressional Visit Day, held every Fall semester, gives students an opportunity to connect with their government. The event allows students to engage with Congressional staff through discussions of contemporary science policy issues.

The day-long event is divided between presentations on the process of creating legislation, science policy discussions, and visits with staff from individual offices representing the home districts of the participating students.

In preparation for the day's events, students research ways that national science policy issues affect their home communities. Morning breakout sessions help students turn this research into thoughtful, action-oriented messages to deliver to congressional staffers during afternoon meetings. The day concludes with a group session to compare experiences and insights.

The SPI Congressional Visit Day is open to students from the 20 campuses that are part of the national student organization The Triple Helix.
